The Burke County open was back in action in 2023 after a brief hiatus. Silver Creek held both rounds of this year’s 36-hole event. To say it was hot would be an understatement, with temperatures in the low to mid 90’s for most of the action. Thanks to a brief rainstorm on Friday, the temperature did drop significantly for a nice cool finish of the first round.
The final group had some familiar faces, and some new ones. Shane Hise, Sam Mace, Alan Sailors and Chase Wyke all worked their way into the final group on Saturday with scores ranging from 70 (-2) to 74 (+2).
After some struggles at the start of the back nine from the two players in striking distance, Shane Hise cruised to the finish with a two-day total 148 (+4) two shots clear of Taylor Young 150 (+6) to capture the title, Burke County Open Champion.
Jeff Patton took home the senior championship with a 2-day total of 148 (+4) with Jim McMahan taking 2 nd place with a 2 day total of 156 (+12).
The Super senior division was stacked with competition this year, but ultimately Rick Condrey was crowned Champion with an impressive 2-day total of 139 (-5 under par). Coming in 2nd was our own Byron Bailey with a 2-day total of 144 (E).
For the first time we had a Ladies Division. Four senior ladies teed it up. After a 3-way race after the first day, Lee Heelan left no doubt after posting a 2-day total 155 (+11). 2nd place was taken by Sarah Pierce with a 2-day total of 164 (+20).
Thanks to everyone for playing, and a special thanks to our sponsors, Seth Gullet and Adam Shade of Farm Bureau and Kris Pyles Sweet of Modern Medical Aesthetics & Wellness.
